Our Story

Our love story

We first started talking on January 25, 2025. At the time we lived about two hours apart, but distance never really stood a chance. Shawna was busy working in genetic testing for kidney transplants while also pursuing her master’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science. Around the same time, I had recently moved to Iowa to begin a fresh chapter and figure out my next steps.

We actually met on Facebook Dating… although Jacob prefers to say we met on Facebook Marketplace because she “had a really nice couch for sale.” Somehow that joke never gets old.

From the very beginning we talked constantly and ended every night on FaceTime. Before we ever met in person we already felt like we knew each other. When we finally did meet, everything just clicked. Conversation came easy, laughter came naturally, and neither of us ever had to pretend to be someone we weren’t.

We quickly realized how similar our childhoods and values were, and how comfortable we felt sharing absolutely anything with each other. What started as a simple conversation turned into hours, then days, and then a relationship neither of us could imagine life without.

Not long after, that same feeling led to one of the easiest questions ever asked and the happiest “yes” ever given. Getting engaged wasn’t a surprise to our hearts — we both already knew we had found our person.

Now we can’t wait to celebrate our wedding surrounded by the people we love most. What began with a simple message turned into a friendship, a partnership, and a forever — and we are so excited for this next chapter together.

The best part… our story is just getting started.

Dress Code

SEMI-FORMAL

We’re so excited to celebrate our big day with the people we love most!

Our ceremony will be held outdoors, so please dress comfortably and come ready to relax, laugh, and enjoy the evening with us. We want everyone to feel like themselves — think nice but easygoing rather than overly formal.

We can’t wait to share this unforgettable day together!

Questions about our day? We might have the answers for you!

Can we bring outside alcohol?

For venue policy and safety reasons, outside alcohol is not permitted on the premises. Don’t worry though — a full-service bar will be open throughout the celebration with plenty of options to enjoy!

Are there hotels nearby for guests traveling to Iowa?

Yes! Here are a few convenient places to stay: Near the Airport • Hampton Inn Des Moines-Airport – Great option if you’re flying in or out. Closer to the Venue / Short Drive • Fairfield Inn & Suites Des Moines West – Comfortable and close to restaurants & shopping. • Drury Inn & Suites West Des Moines – Popular choice with breakfast and evening snacks included. • Hyatt Place West Des Moines/Jordan Creek – Spacious rooms and plenty nearby to do.

Can we bring our children?

Absolutely — we love kids! We’ll have a special kids’ table with coloring activities and snacks for them to enjoy. During important moments of the reception (like our first dance), we kindly ask that children stay with their parents so everyone can share those memories together.

Is there parking available?

Yes! There is plenty of on-site parking available at the venue for all guests

What should we expect for weather and attire?

Iowa weather in October can change quickly, so we recommend bringing a light jacket. The ceremony will be held outdoors, while the reception will take place indoors — so you’ll stay warm once the party starts!

What time should we arrive?

Please plan to arrive about 15 minutes before the ceremony start time so everyone has time to park, find a seat, and we can begin right on schedule.
